    His 2011 season could hardly be called a breakout year because he'd enjoyed more than a bit of success before but, when he bested a stellar field at the Abu Dhabi triathlon last year and followed that up by defeating the seemingly unbeatable Marcel Zamora at Ironman Nice, Frederik Van Lierde's name became one that was mentioned among those who could be a contender in Kona.


  • 70.3 Physically Challenged Lottery Opens
    The 2012 Ironman World Championship 70.3 Physically Challenged (PC) Lottery is now open. Those interested must apply by Friday, March 23rd at 12 PM) EST, with five winning entries being contacted by Wednesday, April 4th.

  • Ironman 70.3 Japan offers Kona Slots
    While there might not be a full Ironman distance race in Asia this year, Asian athletes still have the opportunity to qualify for the Ironman World Championship this year. Entries open for the third Ironman 70.3 Centrair Tokoname Japan on January 31st - this year's event will offer 30 qualifying spots for the Kona and 25 slots for the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Lake Las Vegas, Nevada.

    After a successful inaugural event last year, the Ironman team is hard at work preparing for the second Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas, to be held in The Woodlands on May 19, 2012.   • WTC Announces Exciting Changes to 5150 Triathlon Series
    World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) today announced changes and additions to the 5150 Triathlon Series. Professional WTC champions will have the opportunity for expanded automatic qualifying across three world-renowned championship events: the Hy-Vee 5150 U.S. Championship, Ironman World Championship 70.3 and Ironman World Championship. Professional athletes will also have expanded opportunities for 5150 Pro Ranking (5150 PR) points with the addition of 5150 Triathlon Series races and select Ironman 70.3 races to the qualifying schedule.

    Rasmus Henning burst onto the Ironman scene in 2009, fresh off his second appearance at the Olympic Games (eighth in Beijing in 2008, 7th in Athens in 2004) with an impressive win at Ironman China and an even more impressive Kona debut - fifth, despite a broken hand. Since then he's had two tough years in Kona, but those results aside, Henning will no-doubt be considered a contender for the win when he lines up at the Ironman World Championship in October.
