Oceanside, California

The California Ironman 70.3 Triathlon will be held on March 27, 2010 in Oceanside, California (about one hour north of San Diego). Triathlon legends Roch Frey and Paul huddle are the race directors for the event and have been involved with the race since its inception. With their expertise this race is always been a first class event. Oceanside is great race to kick off the North American Ironman series.

Swim 1.2 miles

The California Ironman 70.3 swim course is a one loop swim course in the Oceanside harbor. The course follows a dog leg format, starting at the boat launch and angles left toward the mouth of the harbor, and turns around where it meets the Boat Basin entrance. Spectators can follow the athletes along the harbor rocks for the first and last 1/4 mile.

Transition

The Transition area opens at 4:45 AM. Both T1 and T2 are located in the same location at the harbor. Racks are assigned to your bib number and age group. Bathrooms can be found at the far north end of the Transition area, just outside of the racks area.

Bike 56 miles

The California Ironman 70.3 bike course is 56 miles single loop course. The bike course runs along the ocean heading north for the first 20 miles, flat and fast. At mile 23 you head into Camp Pendleton, just as you enter the base you will find the second aid station. Inside the base you will have 3 major hills the biggest at mile 35 known as the monster.

There will be a NO PASSING / NO SPEEDING zone on the first long descent on Basilone Road (approx 39 to 40 miles into the bike course). The speed limit on this dangerous descent will be 25 miles per hour. In 2000, a rider lost control and was was actually killed. Officials are very serious about this descent and have radar guns to enforce the speed limit. You will be DQ if your speeding.

California Ironman 70.3 run course is a 2 loop run course that follows along the oceanside beach and neighborhoods, there is zero shade so be sure to wear sun screen.

Thank you! I have been trying to find a good report on the bike route. The course profile at the official website didn't have the level of detail I wanted. Your chart with the total ascent/descent/flats was perfect.
